NOW GmbH
Thorsten Herbert has been advancing the market preparation of hydrogen and fuel cell technology at the National Organization for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW) GmbH in Berlin since November 2008. He also coordinates the activities of the National Innovation Program Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP) as Head of Program NIP. Its main focus is on hydrogen-powered vehicles for road and rail transport (cars and fleet vehicles, such as buses) and the corresponding hydrogen infrastructure.
Thorsten has led the Division Transport and Infrastructure since 2015 where he is also responsible for the funding measures of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) for battery-electric mobility and the implementation of the Federal Funding Program Charging Infrastructure. In addition, NOW supports the BMVI in the realisation and further development of the Federal Government’s mobility and fuel strategy.
After studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Thorsten Herbert was involved in leading functions in the development of automotive fuel cell propulsion systems at Bertrandt Ingenieurbüro GmbH and GM Powertrain Deutschland GmbH for seven years.
